Oil on canvas

$2,500

In 1999, I was seriously injured in a car accident. Later, I created a series of 10 oil paintings that depicted symbolically my thoughts, emotions, and beliefs about this accident, starting from right before the accident happened until afterwards, in the hospital, when I knew I would be OK. The paintings were meant to be viewed like a storyboard from 1 to 10.

This painting is the seventh in the series. After my car hit the center divider of the freeway, it bounced off and headed straight into on-coming traffic and then stopped in the middle of the freeway.  I could not open my door, but I was helped out of my car by some wonderful people and laid on the side of the freeway to wait for the ambulance. I remember feeling like a tiny, broken-winged, very fragile bird. It was an odd and very distressing feeling.
